Pastoral Care

At Wirral Grammar School for Girls great importance is placed on providing exceptional pastoral care which provides the scaffolding for a pupil’s personal development. We are incredibly proud that in December 2022 Ofsted recognised that at ‘Wirral Grammar School for Girls pupils and students thrive. They feel an immense sense of pride at belonging to a warm and welcoming school community.’ The inspectors also comment that ‘kindness permeates the school’ and that the pupils are ‘extremely courteous, polite and helpful to others’. We recognise that academic achievement alone does not make for a successful and happy pupil who can then become a citizen able to thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing global community. Fulfilment as an adult is reliant on many different contributions to a young person’s development. We feel that part of our duty in educating young people is to provide as much of this as we can within a safe and secure environment.

The importance of developing a growth mindset by valuing effort and embracing challenge and failure is highlighted in the student planner, through assemblies, curriculum lessons and through a series of self-reflective sessions that form tutors provide throughout the year.

All staff at Wirral Grammar School for Girls take a role in supporting a pupil’s wellbeing. Form tutors take time to establish positive and supportive relationships with the pupils in their form. During the week they have three dedicated form times in which they join their form in a range of activities including quizzes, planning charity events, setting personal and pastoral targets, sharing experiences of extra-curricular activities and presenting ideas to one another. Pupils also go to two assemblies per week, one with members of the senior leadership team and one year group assembly. We are a very strong community at Wirral Grammar School for Girls and participating in assembly plays a vital role in underlining that ethos.

Form tutors are supported by sixth form mentors in years 7, 8 and 9 and a Head of Year in all year groups. In turn, Heads of Year are supported by our Pastoral Assistant (non teaching member of staff), the Deputy Headteachers and Mrs Ogunmiywa, Headteacher. These key staff are:
