Our History

Wirral Grammar School for Girls was opened in 1931 as Wirral County Grammar School for Girls. The school has grown in size over the years, originally educating some 900 girls, it now has a school population of just over 1200.

The school was always a place which pursued academic excellence. As part of the grammar schools expansion in the 1930s, Wirral County Grammar School for Girls was originally a fee paying school before the changes in education policy in the 1940s made it free for all. Since then, the school has offered a broad and balanced curriculum, encompassing a full range of subjects.

In the 1974 the school moved under control of Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council and became a single-academy trust in 2011.

The school has had 7 Headteachers in its history.
