Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the Department of Education to enhance the education of disadvantaged students.

The grant is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years. This is referred to as the ‘Ever 6’ model. The school receives £985 for every eligible ‘Ever 6’ pupil and £2410 for Looked After Children or previously Looked After Children for the same period of six years, as well as £320 for Service children.

Schools are allocated a Pupil Premium grant on a financial year basis rather than an academic year. The 2022-2023 allocation for Wirral Grammar School for Girls is £86,765. This sum is based on 87 eligible children.

Pupil Premium is used to provide additional tuition, educational materials and resources to support achievement for these pupils. It is also used to subsidise uniform, revision programmes, educational visits, activities and special projects to maximise the potential of our disadvantaged pupils.

Pupil Premium strategy and impact

Supporting the progress of students who receive pupil premium is done effectively through: monitoring the progress of these pupils using departmental and whole-school tracking systems; supporting these pupils’ progress through mentoring programmes where appropriate; ensuring staff CPD and inset focuses on how best to ensure the progress of pupils in receipt of pupil premium funding; strong pastoral support; and ensuring that pupils who receive pupil premium have full access to extra-curricular and enrichment activities including educational trips.

Please see our Pupil Premium strategy to show full details of how we best support students for whom we receive Pupil Premium funding. This will be reviewed in September 2024.

As you can see from our 2023 GCSE results below, our pupils for whom we receive Pupil Premium funding achieve very well.
